Located deep within Normandy in the Orne department, LE SAP has preserved its 19 th -century looks to such an extent that it was awarded the "Petite Cité de Caractère” label in 2014. Nestling astride the Auge and the Ouche countries, the town’s aspect reflects both regions. It is said that the village is a perfect example of the harmonious combination of brick and timber frame construction. LE SAP is part of the Federation of Municipalities of Camembert Country.

“LeGrand Jardin” is established inside a 3-hectare former farm which was purchased by the municipality after it was escheated. The idea was to preserve the local heritage; located right by the church, the property features a group of residential and working buildings ranging from the 18 th to the 19 century.

Once they were restored, the buildings were assigned a variety of roles: the farmhouse mansion was turned into a stopover lodge and holiday rental, while the cottage which used to house the employees became a media library. The stable is now a restaurant, and the former cider works has become the “Calvados Apple” Ecomuseum. In addition, the site now features a vegetable garden and a conservatory orchard.
